Every Year The XXL Gives Its Notably "Freshmen Class" at The Start of Every Year. However This Year Has Been A Very Good Year For Talented "Freshmen". I Have Limited The Freshmen Class Down To Three, And When I Name Them I Urge You To Respond To The Ranking Either via E-Mail MrJakkFrostin@Gmail.com or Twitter.com/mrjakkfrostin.
Number 3: Some of You May REALLY Disagree With Me On This But Y'all Can Make Your Own Damn Blog Because Its My Opinion Thank You. The Man Kid Cudi Is Definately Taking The Bronze Medal In Artist That Have Impressed Me So Far In 2009. Honestly I Listened To His Mixtape "A Kid Named Cudi" And Wasnt To Moved Aside From A Couple Songs That Were Interesting. But It Was Honestly His Debut Album "Man On The Moon: The End of Day" That Got Him Up On This List. The Music Is So Different But Yet So Real. I Gave Him The Listen Just On Behalf of Kanye Claiming That Kid Cudi Was His "New Favorite Artist on G.O.O.D Music". I Lost My Mind Like What The Hell, Over Common, Consequence, GLC...I Have To See What It Is. Now He Doesnt Go Above Common In My Book I Realized That Kanye Didnt Make That Statement As In He is The Best or The Most Lyrical. But He Just May Be The MOST Creative, Putting In Melodies With Flows On A Beat Selection So Unique Only A Certain Mental State of Mind For Music Can Appreciate It. I Am A Fan of Music And I Honestly Appreciate The Experimentation Because Creativity Gives Birth To New Ideas, New Tones, New Sounds And Not This Oversaturated Bullshit That We Hear Flooding The Radio Today.
Number 2: Im Going To Have To Give It To J.Cole, Although Alot of People Are JUST Now Starting To Hear This Dude Due To The Blueprint 3 Debut of Him on "A Star Is Born". I Honestly Stand By His Latest Mixtape "The Warm Up" Which Was A Follow Up To Last Years "The Come Up". You Will See That The Man From North Carolina Is ALOT More Little Brother Than Petey Pablo. He Doesnt Fall Into The Common Perception of An Artist From The South. He Shows You Just How The South There Are Different Taste And Influences. Once I Heard His Song "Grown Simba" I Automatically Was Hooked. I Should Have Known It Was Something When Dude Was The First Artist Signed To Jay-Z New Label RocNation Without A Internet Buzz or Heavy Mixtape Suffocation. Just Making Good Music Did It For Him, Good Music Is Still Having A Chance Nowadays.
Number 1: Surprise Surprise If Its Not The Best Canadian Wheelchair Rapper From A Noggin Network Show That I Have Heard To Date(Well On That Note He Is The Only Rapper In That Criteria). Yes Ladies And Gentlemen Aubrey Drake Graham Has Grabbed The Gold As The Best Rapper For The "Freshmen Class". Although To Me He Should Be A Junior Because I Been Listening To Him Ever Since The DJ Smallz Co-Signed And Hosted Mixtape "Room For Improvement" Than Followed Up With Still To Date His Best LYRICAL Piece of Work "Comeback Season". But As Far As Overall Complete Project The Man Has Done It With "So Far Gone" I Cant Lie. To Those Who Say That He Only Raps For The Women You Clearly Are Judging A Book By Its Cover Because The Dude Is More Kind of Anti-Love The More I Listen To Him. Thats Why I Started To Like Him Because He Says Shit That You Can Relate With Whether Man or Women Fuck It, Right Is Right And Wrong Is Wrong Simple And Plain. I Just Worry That He Will Get To Comfortable At The Position He is In Expect That Things Will Just Happen For Him Oppose To him Having To Work For It. When You Get Comfortable in your Position Its been Proven Your Quality Of Music Diminishes and It Becomes more about Quantity. At The Position That The Man Drake is In Right Now With The World Listening To Him The Only Person Who Can Fuck It Up For "Drizzy" Drake is Himself.
P.S. HONORABLE MENTION GOES TO....Wale
